Is John Proctor a stooge or is he a hero? That would
be that’s hard one. Saying he is either or is like saying, “Trix are for kids.”
Trixs were developed for kids, but to be
honest nobody follows that rule. Same goes for Mr. Proctor. Yes he is a stooge
to some extent but he can’t really be a stooge without being a hero. So, yes he
is a stooge for the sole reason that he lied, and if we follow Puritan beliefs,
that’s pretty horrible… according to them. But in general think about the guy could
have prevented his own death, and maybe a few others. Put it this way, if he
were to follow the honestly is the best policy stuff, his wife wouldn’t have
been in so much trouble, Abby would be silenced, and he would get his
punishment. The fact the runs away from the truth by trying to hide that he had
an affair with Abby and making things worse on his wife show how stooge like
and douche like he really is. I mean running away from something that severe
shows how selfish, inconsiderate and over all stooge like he is.
But you could never actually call him a full on
stooge, and he would be classified as a hero. I mean how many husbands do you
know that go to court to save a wife they seem to have no interest in? Not only
that bet he admitted to having an affair with Abby just to save his wife. He
even gave what sounded like a really honest testimony for his wife just to save
her. In the end, he went to Salem, testified for her, and in a way he also died
for her. In the end, he did one of the most heroic things a husband can do. So
yes Proctor may have been a douche and stooge, but you can’t fully classify him
like that, because as pathetic and ridiculous as he may have acted, he did one
of the most heroic things a husband could have done.
A stooge is someone who is used as the butt of a joke or just to serve purpose from someone else. I don't see any evidence for him being that in your response. I feel like you've got being a bad person or a douche confused with being a stooge
